Monty's Contract with Kitsap County
This is the contract that will guide my actions as a County Commissioner. I will abide by it faithfully or step down from office willingly:
I will not vote to increase property taxes past the 1% allowed by Referendum 747 without a public vote of approval.
I will work with Port Orchard and Bremerton city officials to solve our transportation problems
I will hold myself and all other Kitsap County officials accountable for our work
I will support a review of charter government for Kitsap County
I will limit my travel outside of Kitsap County to meetings that have a direct impact upon Kitsap County
I will take the time to work with people to understand the impacts of county actions upon them and their properties
Monty's Platform
During my campaign for County Commissioner I will focus upon the themes of Community, Safety and Mobility. If I am elected to serve by my fellow Kitsap County voters I will focus upon these as my most important tasks. Specifically, I believe that;
1. Community: Our county government occupies a vital role in maintaining and enhancing a sense of community. Through shared community planning, funding of vital human services and establishment of trust in local government accountability and efficiency our county government can improve our local sense of community. Our county government can do a better job of involving citizens in their own governance, and in being in touch with the values and desires of its residents.
2. Safety: Effective funding and oversight of vital community safety services such as the justice and law enforcement systems, provision of safe roads and parks, and protection from unnecessary environmental degradation will ensure our health and the stability of our families and social networks.
3. Mobility: Maintaining and enhancing our existing transportation system in the face of diminishing government revenues and increasing population is vital in a region that is transportation challenged due to geography. Perhaps more than any other county in the Puget Sound, our economic well-being will be dependent upon innovative transportation solutions. I support a strengthened multimodal transportation system, including automobile, transit, bicycle and pedestrian improvements.
During the past seventeen years I have become increasingly aware of a need for closer communication with the public in planning for public services, as well as strong, clear leadership in moving our community into a better future. I intend to be part of bringing a more effective, accountable, and caring face to Kitsap County government. I hope that you will consider helping me get this job done.
